The challenge
A DJ's night runs on requests and tips, and both were being handled the old way: someone leans over the booth, someone hands over cash, and nobody remembers what was played or earned. TrackTides wanted a platform that lets DJs accept tips and manage song requests without breaking the set, and lets the crowd take part from their own phones.
What we did
- A request flow for guests. Search a track, add a tip, place the request, from a phone, in seconds, with customisable tip amounts and quick "buy me a dinner, burger or beer" options.
- A live queue for the DJ. Pending requests with the tip attached, accepted or declined with one tap, and all requests in one list with real-time notifications when a new one lands.
- A DJ profile and dashboard. A public profile with social links, and a summary of the week's revenue and request activity.
- Built on Node.js and MySQL for reliability and scale during peak usage, with HTML, CSS and JavaScript on the front end.
The result
The booth got a queue instead of a crowd. Requests arrive with a tip attached, the DJ decides in a tap, and the night's numbers are on a dashboard the next morning rather than in a pocket.
